The Process...

Have you ever asked yourself the question, what do I do now? Where can I go? How can I get help through this difficulty? Did you really need counseling or outside help for your problem? There are different levels of counseling needs. Some issues in our lives are not that confusing or complicated, but others will not be solved without outside Godly counseling. The scripture says," There is safety in a multitude of counselors ." It really helped me when I finally understood that there are three levels of counseling.

The first level of counseling is the supportive level . Almost anyone can listen to someone's problems or issues and affirm the direction that they are going to be an encouragement.

The second level of counseling is the re-educative level. This is a situation where a person believes something about God, themselves or life that isn't true. For instance, a person who believes the statement "to forgive is to forget" and they can't forget; in fact, the more they try to forget, the stronger the memory. The truth is there are two ways of remembering. 1. Still very painful and 2. A fact in history. When you forgive it changes your feeling about the situation. Before you forgive you experience all the hurt, pain and emotions at the time of the infraction. Once you forgive it's a continuing process but you will finally remember the infraction as a fact in history and hopefully be able to reframe the experience in some positive way. "My abusive childhood has made me able to love, care, and give to other hurting - people because I understand what it's like to hurt, to be alone and to have no hope."

The third level is the reconstructive level. This deals with issues that are not so much cognitive. The person doesn't under stand why, what, how they do or don't do certain behaviors. This is where a person can discover what, why, and how, with the purpose not to blame, but to understand themselves, God and others. Abuses, loss, incest, are only a few of the bottom line contributors to behavior that really can be modified to comply with God's best for the person.

There is whole lot more that one can learn of these areas. This is why we appreciate so much our Biblically based Christ-centered Counselors and the free Thursday night Abundant Life Counselors Seminars .  Many people are finally get help for healing, understanding, and hope through Christ. " You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free ."
